Here are some examples of Essential Oils
and the plant materials from which they are derived
in the Scriptures

Exodus 30:22-31 describes the Holy Anointing Oil that was used to anoint all the implements of the Tabernacle and the High Priest. It contains: Myrrh, which is antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral. Cinnamon, which is also antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal; it purifies the blood and improves circulation. Calamus inhibits microbial growth as well as improves blood and lymph circulation. Cassia does all this plus elevates mood and improves blood and lymph flow.
Exodus 30:34-36 describes the Incense for the Tabernacle/Temple. The components for the Incense are: Balsam, Onycha, Galbanum, and Frankincense. All of these have similar properties as the Holy Anointing Oil. The Galbanum in this mix made the Incense a bug repellent as well. Frankincense is well known for its ability to fight infection and heal wounds. Recent evidence suggests it is effective against cancer. The first century historian Josephus records that the aroma of the Incense burned at the Temple could be smelled in Jericho -- 12 miles away!!
Ezekiel 47:12 and Revelation 22:2 both tell us that the leaves of the trees are for healing. In Mark 6:12-13 Messiah's Disciples were sent out to anoint the sick and heal them. In James 5:14, we are told to call for the elders of our community and they will anoint us with oil and pray and we will be healed. In Isaiah 10:27 we read that the yoke is broken by the anointing oil. And the best one yet: In Isaiah 6:13 we are told that our Heavenly Father Himself will give us the Oil of Joy for mourning. HalleluYah!
